Modern design is much about the illusion of space.  One major challenge when working in a simple area is storage.  How does one reduce clutter and keep simple lines, yet have space that can be functional?

One method to store was simply to hide it.  Paneled cabinets provided lots of storage with the a clean look.  The cabinets, however, tended to be bulky and linear, so were used sparingly, sometimes housing a TV and/or radio.

Another method is to incorporate the structural unit and items into one.  Wall units typically could be used to store vertically, allowing for the utilization and consolidation of 'things' in a way that would not compete with the otherwise minimalist design.
